Spiritual Fruit Beyond Technical Excellence

Implications for worship and production teams go beyond achieving musical or technical excellence; truly healthy teams bear spiritual fruit both on and off the stage. In Galatians 5:19-21, Paul warns of the "works of the flesh," such as pride, jealousy, and selfish ambition—common challenges that can arise in team-based ministry. However, Paul also reminds us that "those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires" (Galatians 5:24).

For worship and production teams to thrive, they must be filled with followers of Jesus who actively seek to "keep in step with the Spirit" (Galatians 5:25). A Spirit-filled team will demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit, which includes "love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23).

Even if a team executes every cue perfectly, delivers a flawless mix, or transitions seamlessly, their efforts fall short of their true purpose if their lives don't reflect Christ. Worship and production leaders need to prioritize praying over and teaching their teams the principles found in Galatians 5. In doing so, they ensure that their teams not only excel in their craft but also glorify God beyond the technical aspects of worship.
